Zowena Skincare | Brand identity and packaging design

Zowena Skincare, a refreshing addition to the skincare market, sought a distinct brand identity and packaging design that harmonised with their plant-based, scientifically-driven, and South African-manufactured products.

Dedicated to crafting skincare solutions that prioritise the skin's well-being, Zowena formulates natural beauty products with a purpose - to replenish and fortify the skin's natural barrier, aiding in moisture retention every day. Their commitment lies in using 100% natural ingredients, employing purposeful plant-based chemistry, and directly sourcing ingredients from South African producers.

As a startup embarking on their first product release, Zowena approached me to develop their brand identity and packaging. I designed an identity inspired by the top-down view of resurrection plant leaves, a key ingredient in their formula. The brand icon, with an elemental and scientific aesthetic, has a visual energy to it and incorporates incidental droplet shapes within its intersecting shapes. It balances a delicate floral essence with a biological aesthetic. The type mark adds a friendly and approachable touch, featuring letter forms with a liquid sense. Derived from the brand icon, various shapes can be utilised independently or combined to form complementary brand patterns. The colour palette, consisting of soothing greens and an array of pink hues, creates a vibrant yet nourishing visual appeal.

For the first product packaging, a clean and sophisticated design features a pink tone combined with white, exuding a fresh and vibrant feel. The brand icon is isolated from the logo type, serving as a recognisable standalone mark that also functions decoratively. The packaging captures the essence of Zowena Skincare, embodying purity, science, and a commitment to natural beauty.
